And the award goes to...

The website www.ecofriendlytourist.com reports on the winners of the prestigious Considerate Hoteliers Association awards

It’s awards season once again. But step aside the Golden Globes, the BAFTAs and the Oscars. Instead make way for the Considerate Hoteliers Association annual awards whose 2007 winners have just been announced.

Whether leading the way in energy, waste and water management or sustainable food sourcing, the winning establishments are striding forward with new and innovative ways of reducing their impact on the environment and each Award recognises the best improvers in each category.

The overall winner was the Cavendish London - the hotel which best demonstrated the steps it has made in three or more of the challenges, entering all four challenges, being highly commended in the Waste challenge and achieving excellent results in other categories.

The other category winners in the awards, presented at the Master Innholders’ General Managers’ conference at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower, were:

Waste Management – Radisson SAS Edinburgh
Water Management – Deans Place Hotel – Alfriston
Energy Management – Best Western Premier Yew Lodge Hotel – Kegworth
Promoting Sustainable Food
Rural winner – Lasswade Country House Hotel, Llanwrtyd Wells
Metropolitan winner – Apex International Hotel Edinburgh

ecofriendlytourist.com congratulates the winners. Most are already featured in our guide to eco-friendly places to stay in the UK and the Cavendish has recently agreed to be join them here – watch out for its listing coming soon.
